Statement on the 2025 Transgender Military Ban

Yesterday, the administration issued an executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the United States military. This discriminatory action denies skilled and dedicated Americans the opportunity to serve their country, undermining our military’s readiness, cohesion, and commitment to equality.

The strength of our armed forces lies in their diversity and the principle that anyone willing and able to meet the rigorous standards of service deserves the opportunity to contribute. Excluding individuals based solely on their gender identity, rather than their performance or qualifications, is an affront to the core values of integrity, duty, and equality that the military represents.

From the earliest days of our nation, LGBTQ+ Americans have courageously defended this country, demonstrating their unwavering dedication and patriotism. To deny them the right to serve is not only unjust but also undermines the very freedoms they fight to protect.

This executive order has already prompted legal challenges from advocacy groups, who argue that it violates constitutional guarantees of equal protection. The National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLAD have announced plans to file lawsuits challenging the ban, emphasizing that policies based on disapproval of particular groups are unlawful.

The Transformation Project and Transformation Project Advocacy Network stand in solidarity with transgender service members and their families. We are unwavering in our commitment to providing the resources, advocacy, and support they need during these challenging times. Together, we will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of all those who serve our nation.
