Statement on Executive Order Banning Gender-Affirming Care for Youth
Yesterday the administration issued an executive order banning gender-affirming care for transgender and nonbinary youth under the age of 19, and we fully expect this to be challenged in court. This cruel and politically motivated action strips young people of the medically necessary care, disregarding the overwhelming consensus of medical experts, endangering lives, and violating fundamental human rights.
Every major medical organization, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association, affirms that gender-affirming care is essential, evidence-based, and often life-saving. By blocking access to this care, the government is not protecting children—it is actively harming them.
Denying transgender youth the ability to access medical care does not change their identities; it only forces them into greater distress, increasing rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide. Families, in consultation with their doctors, should have the right to make decisions about their child’s healthcare—free from government interference and extremist ideology.
The Transformation Project and Transformation Project Advocacy Network offer our unwavering support of transgender youth, their families, and the medical professionals who provide life-saving care. We will not be silent as politicians strip away the rights and dignity of our community and we are fully committed to fighting this ban.
To every transgender young person: You are seen. You are loved. You deserve care, respect, and the freedom to be yourself. We will not stop fighting for you.
