UPDATES TO TITLE IX: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RIGHTS OF LGBTQI+ YOUTH IN SCHOOLS

This is a big deal: for the first time ever, the U.S. Department of Education has published regulations that specify LGBTQI2S+ people are protected from discrimination in schools on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or sex characteristics. For decades, GLSEN has documented the persistently high rates of harassment, bullying, and assault faced by LGBTQI+ youth. Increased public awareness about these clearer legal protections is an important step in pushing forward a vision of safer and more inclusive schools.
